Scottish photographer Linda Lieberman‘s solo show “A Sea of Awareness” is opening in Florence at La Corte Arte Contemporanea Gallery on Friday May 27th 2011.
Those of you who are not currently in Florence and may wish to take a trip to Tuscany at the end of this month would enjoy the opportunity of experiencing the vibrant artistic spirit of a beautiful Renaissance town combined with some intense and fascinating photography, as well as participating in the cultural debate on the threats nature faces every day and reflecting upon the awareness of how our every day actions affect the environment. This exhibition marks the opening of a forthcoming programme of artistic exchanges between London and Florence: selected artists will be invited to show their work, enhancing the cultural bonds between arts institutions and creative people from the 2 countries.
Selected works from the photographic exhibition “A Sea of Awareness – Un Mare di Consapevolezza”, will be on show as an exclusive preview at the 8th edition of Terrafutura, the annual international Fair hosted in the Florentine Fortezza da Basso’s exhibition space between May 20th – 22nd 2011. Terrafutura promotes and encourages new politics and programs, stimulates “good practices” of social, economic and environmental sustainability and foster the virtuous change of lifestyle towards more respectful and environment-aware behaviours.

Scottish photographer Linda Lieberman’s solo show explores and stimulates social, economic and environmental sustainability towards more respectful and environmentally-aware behaviour.
Linda creates intense black and white sculpture-like images peering into the indissoluble bond between nature and man, drawing inspiration from the constant climate change and the dramatic challenges nature faces.
The event focuses on our careless use of natural resources and common goods, specifically water, where life began and whose waste is threatening our planet as well as our future.
Linda’s powerful images instigate the cultural debate on the awareness of how our everyday actions affect the environment and urge us to seek respect and deeper understanding.
Woman is sea and the sea is woman: Linda photographs woman as the sea, the softness of the sea foam, the curves of the waves, the jagged edges of fish become one with the body of a woman. She shows us the special relationship between the sea and woman. Woman is the creator of life, the feeder of the world, the comforter – she gives and gives and gives, just as the sea is evolution, giving generously and unendingly.

La mostra fotografica della fotografa e scultrice scozzese Linda Lieberman “A Sea of Awareness” aprirà a Firenze Venerdi 27 Maggio 2011 presso la Galleria La Corte Arte Contemporanea.
L’evento inaugura un programma di scambi artistici tra Londra e Firenze, grazie al quale artisti e designer anglosassoni verranno invitati ad esporre in Italia e successivamente permetterà a creativi italiani di esibire i propri lavori nei suggestivi spazi della contemporaneità della capitale britannica.
Una esclusiva preview di 3 opere selezionate sarà in mostra a Terrafutura, VIII mostra/convegno internazionale dedicata alla progettualità e ai nuovi modelli di sviluppo sostenibile, in programma a Firenze dal 20 al 22 Maggio 2011 presso la Fortezza da Basso.

Gli scatti in bianco e nero della fotografa scozzese Linda Lieberman e l’intensità con la quale l’artista affronta la tematica del rapporto tra essere umano e natura generatrice offrono un potente stimolo al dibattito intellettuale circa la consapevolezza degli effetti sull’ambiente dei nostri gesti quotidiani e ci esortano ad assumere comportamenti virtuosi a salvaguardia del nostro ecosistema e del nostro stesso avvenire. La donna e le creature del mare rappresentano il cuore della mostra, come in un doppio inno alla vita: negli scatti “viscerali e intensi” di Linda il ventre materno e l’acqua, dai quali tutto ha avuto origine, sono indissolubilmente legati come parte di uno stesso destino.
La sua fotografia richiama la scultura, i corpi di donna ritratti nei suoi bianco e nero sono armoniosamente vestiti, ornati e talvolta imprigionati da pesci, crostacei e uova, simbolo della creazione. L’uovo, il ventre della donna, lo stesso oceano sono il nostro guscio: gli scatti, allo stesso tempo immediati e impegnativi, sfidano lo spettatore ad una più profonda comprensione delle fragilità dell’ambiente che ci circonda, perché queste rappresentano le nostre stesse debolezze.
